Seriously?

Ouch!

Seriously!!

This was posted on one of my favorite sites Post Secret this week. On one hand I can understand that teachers are human. They picked their profession to work with children. They perhaps didn't anticipate having to deal with parents on a daily basis. I will also say that I'm sure some parents are more of a hindrance then a help.

"Some" being a key word.

As a stay-at-home mom the comment about "getting a life and a job" was very insultive. I hate the stereotype that we just sit on the couch and eat bon-bons. I am here to say that we do not live vicariously through our children. I feel I have a life and an identity outside of being a mother.

I don't know. I'll stop now because I could rant for ever. I just hope I never have to deal with a teacher who views me in this light.

I agree with all you've said. We don't have time to sit around and eat bon bons. I think I'm busier now than I was when I did have a job! It's crazy. But, I wouldn't trade it for a six figure salary or anything else!

I once heard "I would have the perfect job....if....I taught in an orphanage"

In defense of teachers, I don't think we believe that you sit around watching soaps or eating bon-bons or what-ever. And, for the most part, we love and respect all that you do. It is the handful of assess out there that stand out in the ground and make us wonder "what now" when we see them coming. And, you gotta admit that there are a few moms out there (and maybe even some dads) that do revolve around their kids. But, we are fairly well educated....at least enough to know not to generalize. But, just like that handful of aggrivating parents, there are some teachers who really just shouldn't speak unless spoken to ;)

Wow...that is insulting. I am going to choose that what SBS said is true and there are SOME mothers that make teachers cringe. I've seen them - we all know who they are. I, too am a SAHM and have a very busy full life of my own on top of being a mother and wife. I do volunteer at the school often, but I'm asked to so I guess I'm not one of "those" mothers. I'm going to bed now feeling pretty good about myself... (hey, it doesn't take much to make me happy or smile)!

Oh, and I love your blog...came here via SBS who is pretty awesome herself!
