As the holiday season approaches we all begin to create our gift list for our loved ones. This year I am looking at how my money can be better spent. I can do this by gifting a donation or by purchasing a gift from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Alzheimer’s is such a debilitating disease. It is defined as a progressive, degenerative disorder that attacks the brain’s nerve cells, or neurons. This results in the loss of memory, thinking and language skills and behavioral changes. The Alzheimer’s Foundation’s mission is to provide optimal care and services to individuals confronting dementia, and to their caregivers and families – through member organizations dedicated to improving quality of life. It is understood that although a cure to Alzheimer’s is important, ensuring quality care for those who are suffering from this disease today should not be overlooked.
The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America eStore holds a great selection of holiday gift ideas. Such as an exclusive collection of fine jewelry, t-shirts, and hats. There are plenty of lower priced items as well, including pins, key chains, and magnets.
With these products from their eStore, the Alzheimer’s Foundation hopes to raise awareness and enhance the knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses. This will help further their mission of providing optimal care to those affected. It is important to note that all the proceeds from their sales support the Alzheimer foundation’s programs, services and member organizations.
I was truly saddened when I read that it is estimated that the Alzheimer’s disease currently affects more than five million Americans. I think we all know of someone (whether in our family or a friend) that has been affected by this terrible disease. They project that the number of Americans with Alzheimer’s could more then triple to 16 million by mid-century. 16 million! This means if you are one of the few lucky people who have not had a loved one affected by this disease, you most likely will in the future. For as our population ages this disease will impact a greater number of us.
So when you are creating your holiday Christmas list, please take a moment to browse the Alzheimer’s eStore. Not only could you find the perfect gift for a loved one, you’ll also be contributing to helping families suffering from the effects of this cruel disease.
